see reverse for care

2009

MFA Thesis Concert

Temple University

Conwell Dance Theater

Philadelphia, PA. USA

"see reverse for care," investigates the complicated relationships existing within women regarding their relationships with themselves, and their relationships with the world. In an attempt to turn a woman inside out, Alviar explores the emotional and psychological terrain of the female experience through curvilinear and innovative gestural movement. The dance piece includes 11 women of different backgrounds and experiences allowing Alviar to challenge the idea of female behavior through her emotionally driven choreography. "see reverse for care" is an attempt to give instructions for taking care of, or at least getting to know a woman for who she is and what she has been through. Jimena Alviar works in collaboration with Temple alum Merissa Martignoni ('08 Boyer College of Music and Dance) to create an original music score that, in tandem with the dance, expresses the world contained in a woman's body.
